Our Organization embarked on the above mentioned programme in collaboration with Rotary Club of Abuja Metro. The two-day event was very successful and featured career talks on various professions, academic competition for Junior Secondary Schools in the FCT and award of prizes to winners in different categories.



This year’s Keep – A – Child – In – School was held at LEA Primary School Paipe in Abuja Municipal  Area Council of FCT.   Keep-In-School (KIS) is an educational outreach programme aimed at increasing access, enrollment and retention of pupils in school. This is done by soliciting support to curb the plight of indigent primary school children.      

During the event, educational, teaching and learning materials which included school bags, text books, exercise books, writing materials and many more were distributed to the pupils.

Our organization also mobilized volunteer Teachers who taught the pupils on different subjects according to the school’s timetable. A motivational talk on the benefits of reading was delivered by a corp member Mr. Ekene Nnolum.
Goodwill messages came from the Secretary FCT Universal Basic Education Board, the schools Head Master and many other special guests.



This programme marked the beginning of our 2014 activities. Our special mentor was Mr. Walter Ozongwu, a Nigerian born, American based accomplished Pharmacist who spoke to more than 450 students and Teachers on the topic, ‘Readers are Champions’. The event held at Junior Secondary School, Gwarinpa Estate, Abuja on Thursday, 23rd January, 2014 by 11am.

The event featured the following; Songs / Poetry from students, Goodwill messages, Motivational talks, Presentation of educational materials to students, Donation of books to the school library and Signing of ‘I PLEDGE TO READ MY BOOKS’ Banner.

The event which attracted media presence was very impactful on both the students, Teachers and other invited guests. The Chairman of FCT Universal Basic Education Board was ably represented by Mrs. V. Ogunka. The event managers were, Mr. James John and Miss Favour Oha.

This is a quarterly programme  aimed at promoting reading and writing culture. Here authors are taken to schools on education visit to discuss their books, share their experiences, speak on the benefits of reading and motivate students to imbibe the culture of reading.  The first quarter ARASP was done at Peoples Comprehensive Academy, Mararaba in Nassarawa State.

Mr Simeon Nwakaudu, an author,  motivational speaker and the Special Assistant to the Honourable Minister of State for Education was the Guest Author.  

The students used the opportunity to sign “I Pledge To Read and Write” banner which is a commitment to imbibe reading and writing culture.

The year started with a recognition of our organization for her immense contribution to the education sector by the Honourable Minister of Education, Prof. Ruqiyyatu Ahmed Rufa’i.  This event which was organized by the Public/ Private Partnership unit of the ministry held at NCCE Hall, Abuja.

This year’s K-I-S held at FCT School for the Blind Jabi Abuja on the 11th of May. The programme was very impactful and motivational. Our organization appealed for support from friends and well wishers, a total of 50 packets of Braille papers were donated to the school.

Our Star Reader was Princess Gloria Iweka, the CEO of PGI Foundation. Activities during the event include; Book reading, poetry, songs from students and guests, display / sales of arts and craft of the pupils. The pupils and guest were served with snacks, drinks and Indomie noodles.

Our organization marked Nigeria’s Independence with a reading session which featured the Honorable Minister of State for Education, Barr. Nyesom Wike, Chairman Board of NCCE, Dr. Jerry Agada, Director General Rochas Foundation, Mrs.Nonye Rajjis-Okpara, Mr. Cyril Stober of Nigeria Television Authority, Mrs. Irene Mbanefo, a Deputy Director in Federal Ministry of Education and Dr. Mrs. Liz Iheanacho of Arts and Culture read with students of Government Secondary School Gwarinpa – Life Camp. A book on Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe was read.



Our organization and Dr. Jerry Agada Foundation Flagged off the FCT “Grooming  the Champions – Readers are Champions” an educational programme aimed at restoring, sustaining and promoting reading culture. Here, students are expected to make impromptu speech on any topic picked.  The contest is of eviction model which started with one hundred and four students/ contestants from all the senior secondary schools in FCT

Explore Club organized a Literacy/ Readership promotion rally which held at millennium park Abuja  on Thursday, 13th May 2010. The Rally was aimed at sensitizing Nigerians and creating awareness on the importance of being literate and promoting reading culture.
The programme involved   over 2000 pupils, students and others from the six Area Councils in FCT. The rally had dignitaries from all works of life in attendance. Short talks on how literacy and reading bring about the underlisted were given;

 Our organization organized a celebrity reading and inter-class academic competition at Federal Government Boys’ College Garki, Abuja.

The program was well attended and our celebrity, Mr. Ayinde Soaga, the then manager News from Nigeria Television Authority Channel 5 Abuja presented a motivational speech. There was interactive and question sessions with students of the college. Prizes were presented to winners.

June 11th marked the flagging off of our READ TO LEAD project, an academic competition among secondary schools. The program was designed to motivate and encourage students to read.

The flagging off was held at Government Secondary School Garki with Fifteen (15) Secondary Schools in Abuja Municipal Area Council in attendance.

Our organization participated in the marking of the DAY OF THE AFRICAN CHILD organized by the child department of the Federal Ministry of Women and Social Development.

The second edition of the EXPLORER magazine captioned PURPOSEFUL LIVING was presented to the public during which impact makers/ achievers of the year 2008 in the persons of Dr. Jerry Agada, the then Honorable Minister of State (1) for Education and Mrs. Carol Ndaguba (OON) the Executive Secretary of NAPTIP were celebrated for their numerous contributions towards the wellbeing of young people in Nigeria.

Multi -Pro Enterprises marketers of Indomie Instant Noodles also received an award for being the most supportive of children/ youth programs. The ceremony took place on the 9th of August 2008 at Chelsea Hotel.

The club organized a seminar for primary school pupils in FCT tagged READ- KNOWLEDGE IS POWER. This was aimed at encouraging and motivating children (ages 7 to 12) to imbibe reading culture. This led to the establishment of a mini book centre in Gwarinpa - Abuja, where children can borrow books to read free of charge.

Explorers undertook a self empowerment-skill acquisition training tagged TALENTED HANDS. In addition to some exploratory and voluntary activities. The club also published her maiden magazine – THE EXPLORER. The magazine is an avenue through which young people display their skills in writing, reporting, compiling, composing, and other creative activities.


The club organized motivational, moral, inspirational and career talks in institutions of learning in Federal Capital Territory with particular attention to primary and secondary schools. We visited some schools in FCT with professionals in various fields. They educated and enlightened students on different careers as well as the need for them to be serious with their
