Also in attendance were representatives of - the Honorable Minister of State for Education; Honorable Chairman, Abuja Municipal Area Council; National Library of Nigeria, Association of Nigerian Authors, Chairman FCT Secondary Education Board; Reading Association of Nigeria etc. The competition was declared open by Dr. Anthony Jerry Agada, the Former Minister of State for Education and Chairman NCCE Board.

Government Secondary School Tudun Wada took the first position, the second position went to Government Secondary School Karshi while Government Science Secondary School Area 3 came third. Consolation prizes were presented to contestants and books donated to the school libraries.

Our Organization carried the READ TO LEAD campaign to Secondary Schools in Abaji, Kwali, Gwagwalada, Kuje and Bwari Area Councils. The reading / academic exercise was very exciting and revealing.
From Abaji Area Council,  Government Girls Secondary School Abaji came first, the second position went to Government Science Secondary School Abaji, while Government Secondary School Yaba, Abaji took the third position.

From Kwali Area Council,  Government Secondary School Kwali came first, Second position to Government Secondary School Yangoji and Government Secondary School Dangara Kwali took the third position
In Gwagwalada Area Council, School for the Gifted came first; Second position went to Government Secondary School Hajj camp, while Government Secondary School Gwagwalada took the third position.

In Kuje Area Council, Government Secondary School Kuje came first while the second position went to Government Secondary School Gwargwada.
From Bwari Area Council, Government Secondary School Kubwa  came first, the second position went to Government Secondary School Bwari while Government Secondary School Jibi took the third positions.

Our organization celebrated Nigeria’s independence in a special way. In partnership with the National Action Committee on read Campaign of the Federal Ministry of Education, we organized what we captioned “Independence Reading” with Celebrities, authors and Young people. 

Working in line with Rebranding Nigeria campaign, We organized a celebration and investiture of some worthy Nigerians who were nominated by students as AMBASSADORS OF CHANGE. These Ambassadors are, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, Prof. Godswill Obioma, Hon. Dr. Zaphaniah Jisalo. They will lead other well meaning Nigerians to visit schools to offer counseling and motivational talks to young people in Nigeria on attitudinal change and value reorientation.

The special celebrity school visit is tagged “GROOMING THE CHAMPIONS”.
The occasion also featured the inauguration of our patron Dr. Jerry Agada and our patroness Chief Mrs. Uzoamaka Christian as well as the public presentation of our Magazine The Explorer et Moi.

Our organization in collaboration with Rochas Foundation hosted some American students who were on an educational program called “Reading Across the Continent”. The occasion afforded the students (Nigerians and Americans) the opportunity to share ideas/concepts and a very productive interaction.

Our organization concluded the 2009 FCT Secondary Schools Reading / Academic Competition in a grand finale featuring the winners from the six (6) Area Councils in the Federal Capital Territory. The competition was dedicated to our Patron, Dr. Jerry Anthony Agada for his contribution towards literary development in Nigeria.

The schools that competed  in the event were:

•    Government Secondary School Tudun Wada, in AMAC.
•    Government Girls Secondary School Abaji, in Abaji Area Council.
•    Government Secondary School Kwali, in Kwali Area Council.
•    School for the Gifted Gwagwalada, in Gwagwalada Area Council.
•    Government Secondary School Kuje, in Kuje Area Council
•    Government Secondary School Kubwa, in Bwari Area Council

The Grand Finale was in collaboration with National Library of Nigeria and featured the following activities;

The result was as follows:

  • First Position – Government Secondary School Tudun Wada, representing Abuja - Municipal Area Council (AMAC).
  • Second Position – School for the Gifted Gwagwalada – Gwagwalada Area Council
  • Third Position – Government Secondary School Kwali – Kwali Area Council
  • Fourth Position – Government Secondary School Kubwa – Bwari Area Council
  • Fifth Position – Government Secondary School Kuje – Kuje Area Council
  • Sixth Position – Government Girls Secondary School Abaji – Abaji Area Council

The competition  was held on Wednessday, 11th November 2009 by  9 am At Aso Hall, International Conference Centre, Abuja Plaques, books, reading kits containing books,

T-shirts, souvenirs and cash were given to the schools, students and teachers.
